Under 18:
- For 4-4.25 hours: 15 minutes paid break
- For 4.5-8.25 hours: 15 minutes paid break + 30 minutes unpaid break
- For 8.5-9 hours: 2x 15 minutes paid break + 30 minutes unpaid break
- For 9.25-10 hours: 2x 15 minutes paid break + 2x 30 minutes unpaid break

18 and over:
- For 4-5.25 hours: 15 minutes paid break
- For 5.5-8.25 hours: 15 minutes paid break + 30 minutes unpaid break
- For 8.5-9 hours: 2x 15 minutes paid break + 30 minutes unpaid break
- For 9.25-12 hours: 2x 15 minutes paid break + 2x 30 minutes unpaid break

I have 2 shifts in one day, how much break do I get?

When you work multiple shifts in one day, breaks are calculated based on your total scheduled hours for that day. If this means additional breaks need to be added, you can take these during one of your shifts in consultation with your supervisor. For example: if you have two 4-hour shifts, you are entitled to breaks according to the schedule for an 8-hour workday.

Question 4

When are you entitled to meal allowance?

You are entitled to a meal allowance if you:

- Work more than 4.5 hours in a day
- AND you work past 19:00

If you are 18 or older and have a shift duration of 4.75, 5.00, or 5.25 hours, you can choose to convert your 15-minute paid break into a 30-minute unpaid break. You can request this from your supervisor to have it adjusted in the schedule.
